Improve your reaction times. A quick way to do this is to ask a parent of a friend to hold a ruler up for you vertically, abouve your hand. When they drop the ruler, you have to grab it as quickly as possible. The measurement on the ruler should tell you how you're progressing.
Attempt different start types. If you use a grab start, try track starting - or visa versa. It might make all the difference.
Improve the strength and explosive power in your legs. In the gym, work jumps into your lunges or squats.
Make sure your head is fully tucked, that your streamlining is good into the water. If you have a video camera, ask your coach, a parent or a friend to video some of your starts in training or in competition. If you can see where you're going wrong, you'll be able to make them better.
Good luck! :)
