Firstly, if I were you, I would ask myself why does the person not want to play soccer?

There are numerous reasons for this. If the person is small or cannot exactly run fast, you can tell him that soccer isn't just about attacking or scoring goals. There is also defense or midfield, all which are equally important and they are not necessarily meant for people who are fast or tall. In short, soccer is not Basketball (basketball is mainly for tall people while soccer is for everyone regardless of size).

And then for some people, the problem is that they don't have confidence. The same thing happened to my friend a few years ago. He wasn't a fit person (almost obese) and he was really shy. So, I decided to help him by letting him join our school's soccer team. He at first refused to, but then I brought him to some soccer camps and through that he got to know new people and really increase his confidence. He's now a very good player and I think that playing soccer has really helped him in a lot of ways, including his schoolwork because he's having fun.

The most important thing that you would want to do is to not just tell the person the benefits, but rather supplement it with real evidence. That way the person will more likely join soccer.

However, if the person after a long period of time and all that convincing still doesn't want to play soccer, let him be. Everyone has different interests. Maybe he just does not feel anything about the game. But before you think that it's impossible to convince him, don't give up. That way at least you would have tried your best and not give up suddenly. Finally, I wish you all the best in trying to persuade that person to play soccer.
