There is a scoring table. The current table came out from the IAAF in 1985. It assesses a score for each performance in each of the 10 events. The athlete with the highest cumulative score wins.
As of my last knowledge update in October 2023, the highest score in a decathlon is 9,126 points, achieved by Kevin Mayer of France on September 16, 2018, in Talence, France. Mayer broke the previous record held by Ashton Eaton, who scored 9,039 points in 2015. The decathlon consists of ten track and field events, and scoring is based on an established points system for each event.
Bruce Jenner won the gold medal in the decathlon at the 1976 Montreal Olympics with a total score of 8,634 points. His individual event times included a 100 meters time of 10.93 seconds, a 400 meters time of 47.51 seconds, and a 1500 meters time of 4:12.51. Jenner's performance in various other events contributed to his overall score, solidifying his status as a top athlete in the decathlon.
