Briefly, the Gallop organization several years ago did a study of NHL players to determine what makes a good hockey player. they interviewed and polled over 100 of the NHL's best, including Gordie Howe and Wayne Gretsky. What they found is that generally, the great ones do four things:

  1. Sleep an average twelve hours a day or more
  2. Play hockey when ever they can get out on the ice
  3. Eat (four or more meals a day)
  4. And, fight, on and off the ice.

There were a few players who did not fit this behavior pattern. Gretsky was one.
