This all depends on the way you are going to use the wetsuit.
The cooler the water you will be in, the thicker your wetsuit should be. However, with thickness comes a loss of mobility. If the water isn't too cold, and mobility is a major concern, a springsuit would be a good choice (shorter legs/sleeves). But if the water is frigid a fullsuit would be the better choice.

∙ 9y agoProbably go with a 5/4/3mm or a 6/5/4mm wetsuit depending on how easily you get cold. Be sure to purchase a pair of gloves and booties. If you really need it, some people in North Carolina in the winter get hoods, but they are not mandatory.

∙ 11y agoIt should be tight, but not so much that it hurts. A mild ache is usual when you first try on a wetsuit.

A suit should not be tight at all and it should not hurt or cause any aches. Most say it should be snug, but this means different things to different people. A better description is that it should "hug" your body. in other words you don't want any gaps or spaces and it should just touch your body.

A triathlon wetsuit should not be used for surfing due to the fragile coating on the outside of the suit. The abrasive surface of the surfboard will damage the wetsuit ruining the coating and possibly tearing the suit.
Does peeing in your wetsuit make it rip?
No, it does not. When I was certified, I learned you can pee in your wetsuit, but it sounds kinda gross. This means that you can pee in your wetsuit without it causing any damage. I own a 3mm wetsuit and peeing in it hasn't caused any damage.

There are many places to go wetsuit surfing. The best would be in California, specifically in Newport Beach or in San Diego. One can also go wetsuit surfing in Hawaii.
