Aproximately 1500 players are drafted each year into the minor leagues. With the average career length of a MLB player being about 5.6 years, it should take about 5.6 years worth of drafts to fill every team. Since MLB careers can last from a single day to over 20 years, you can see that the one day is much much more common. The amount of players that play for a team even a single day each year varies wildly. But I think going by the 40 man roster size is a good average esitmate and ends up at about a 14.3% chance of a player from single-A making a MLB roster at some point. To make a regular 25 man spot on a roster is a bit less at about 8.9%.

Not sure what you mean here. Like the NHL, most players on minor league teams are Canadian. If you actually want to know which players are Canadian, I would suggest you go to the websites of the various minor leagues and check the team rosters. Go to NHL.com and follow the links there for the minor league circuits.

What does Minor league 'A' stands for?

Currently, MLB rates its minor leagues as Rookie, A, AA, and AAA. Rookie leagues are for those players that are very young, usually just out of high school, and are the player's first professional experience. A leagues are one step above rookie leagues, AA one step above A, and AAA leagues the highest in the minors for the most experienced and/or talented. An 'A' minor league would be composed of teams with younger players and prospects.

Why are some baseball minor league players called up and others are purchased?

Some players are called up from the Minor Leagues and some have their contracts purchased from the Minor Leagues because it's to differentiate between whether they're currently on a team's 4o-man roster or not. If a Major League team calls up a player then they're on a 4o-man roster however if a Major League team purchases a player's contract from 1 of their Minor League teams then they're calling the player up to the Majors but they're also adding him to their 40-man roster as well.
