In barrel racing 5 seconds is added for each nocked over barrel but in some contests if a barrel is nocked over its a dq and if u nock over all three its a dq
There is no set weight requirement for barrel racing. Riders of all shapes and sizes can excel in the sport with proper training and technique. It is more important to have a strong connection with your horse and good riding skills for success in barrel racing.
It can't be explained well enough over the internet because there is so much that goes into it. Get a trainer, or at least some videos, books, and a subscription to a magazine based on barrel racing.

Quarter horses do tend to be the best for barrel racing but Arabians are deferentially not suited for it. You can really use any horse for barrel racing but it is SUPER IMPORTANT that you make sure they have the right body build and athletic abilities to preform the task. Arabians typically don't fit the needs. I am a barrel racer myself so please take this advice.

They just aren't built for it. Quarter horses have the ideal barrel racing conformation, with their well defined hindquarters, they are able to jump into a run from the starting gate and turn on a dime. Arabians are not built much like quarter horses. They can be good starter barrel horses, but if you want to go to the higher levels you need a horse with the build of a quarter horse.
