FIFA players do not get paid when playing for the worldcup. They simply get allowances but no salary. Six years ago during the WC, a story broke on Ghana, I think, because they were not going to play the next match since they were not getting paid the full amount for each match their countries soccer federation had promised them. The amount promised was $180,000 per match. I suspect that's close to low end, but should give you an idea what players are paid for international play.

David Beckham signed a 5 year contract with LA Galaxy for a reported $252 million. So just short of $1 mil a week.

However, this is a major exception to the rule and it was believed to be financially backed by a company wanting to break 'soccer' into the American market.
