There is a lot of gorilla weight variation due to the species and sex and whether the specimen is in the wild or in captivity. Male western gorillas have a mean weight of 140-160 kg, male mountain gorillas 150-160 kg and male Grauer's gorillas 160-180 kg. Free-ranging gorillas weighing more than 200 kg are rare as they exercize more and eat a different diet. Females usually weigh between 70 and 110 kg.
