According to a February 19, 2010 National Post / Financial Post article the Canadian Olympic Committee awarded "prizes of $20,000 for gold, $15,000 for silver and $10,000 for bronze medals at the 2010 Vancouver Games... The prizes apply to each member of a team." There was further discussion of the prize money being taxable.

Due to the Own the Podium program, Canadian athletes in the 2010 Olympic games were given $20, 000 for gold, $15,000 for silver and $10, 000 for bronze. Approximately $1.7 million in prize money was awarded to Canadian athletes.

This was a first for Canadian athletes and it is unknown if the program will continue.
