You cannot hit the ball more than 3 times. You hit it once, twice, or three times but not over that
You can hit the ball 3 times on each side of the net you want a pass, set, then hit then you repeat that process over and over again

A side-out in volleyball is just another way of saying get the ball back. So if you hear girls screaming side-out when they don't have the ball its just to encourage the team to get the ball back :)
There are 6 people on each side for indoor volleyball. How ever there can be more than 6 people on a volleyball team.
In indoor volleyball, the ball has to be touched at least once, but never more than 3 times before it has to be returned over the net. However, in serve receive (after your opponent serves the ball and it is coming to your side) the ball has to be touched at least twice, and is the ideal time for the first set up.
There isn't a limit to the number of times a ball can be returned to the opposite side. Whenever it drops, the other team gets a point.
