5 teams came from the North and South Carolina in 2011 (3 from NC, 2 from SC). There were actually 68 teams in this years tournament, so about 7.4% of the teams came from these two states. If you are talking about the round of 64 (officially the second round), 7.8% of the teams from these two states made it (no team from a Carolina lost in the first round, although UNC-Ashville had to play to make it to the second round).
