if by 'in the field' you mean the infield then six and three in the outfield. But if you mean on the entire field then 9
the positions are :
-catcher (behind the batter)
-pitcher (In the circle. Even though there isn't a player who pitches until 10U the coach pitches to the batter there is still a player who's position is pitcher.)
-First basemen - (By first of course)
- Second basemen (Is positioned between 1st and 2nd)
-Short Stop (Is positioned between 2nd and 3rd)
-Third basemen (By third base)
-Right fielder (plays in the outfield behind 1st)
-Center fielder (Plays in the outfield behind 2nd base)
and
-Left fielder (plays behind third)
Hope I helped!

Because of the size of the field that baseball is played on, the use of a softball would be irrational.
There are 9 people on the field in a game of softball + reserves.
There can be a lot of players on a baseball team, around 25players, but when the team is in the outfield only 9 players are aloud on the field. There can be a lot of players on a baseball team, around 25players, but when the team is in the outfield only 9 players are aloud on the field.
