As far as the professional game is concerned, there can be a maximum of 45 players dressed for a National Football League game. Of these players 11 start on the offensive side and 11 start on the defensive side. In today's game, no player starts on both offense and defense. So that would leave 23 players on the team that do not start. Two of those players are the punter and placekicker. That leaves 21 players and of those players the breakdown of offense to defense is usually very close. So, of the 45 players that dress for a game, it would be safe to say that 21-22 of them are offensive players and 21-22 of them are defensive players.

A traditional offense has a Quarterback, 2 running backs, 2 wide recievers, 1 tight end, 2 tackles, 2 guards and 1 center. The only required positions are the 5 linemen and the quarterback, you can interchange all of the other positions.

It's the same as on defense 11 players. In an "I" formation its the QB, RB, HB 2 WR Center, 2 Offensive Guards, 2 Offensive Tackles 1 TE. 2 WR could change to 4 WR it varies depending on the play but total number of players are 11.

There should be 11 offensive players on the field to match the 11 defensive players. This is not counting second or third string players not on the field at time of play.

Why arent football players contracts guaranteed and NBA players are?

The difference is the Union. The NBA have guaranteed salaries in their CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement). The NFL does not have clauses that guarantee the entire salary, but the signing bonuses are the guaranteed portion of their contracts.

Who is the best Offensive Coordinator in the NFL?

The best offensive line coach in the NFL is Mike Munchak of the Tennessee Titans. He is a proven developer of young players. He has spent his entire career, both playing and coaching with the Oilers/Titans. He was inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. If you look carefully at the Titans draft history, they never invest high draft picks in their offensive line. They are able to draft mid to late round talent and allow Coach Munchak to develop them. He is without a doubt, the best offensive line coach in the NFL. Added 8/4/11 - I'd have to give the nod to Dante Scarnecchia of New England. He's been with the organization for over 30 years since 1980. He's developed some great offensive linemen over the years out of undrafted and walk-on players. Steven Neal is a good example. He walked on having never played a snap of football in his life (he was an All American Wrestler) and was in intricate part of 3 Superbowl offensive lines.

How many players does it take to play a soccer match?

I'm assuming you mean AMERICAN football, not soccer. Official rules: you must have 11 players on each side of the ball for every play. But the way the game is played on an organized level, a team has 11 offensive players and 11 defensive players, plus a kicker, a punter, a kickholder, kick returner, several other "special teams" players, and 1-3 backups for every position. I'm not sure but I think the official maximum roster size for an NFL team is 88. In the past, teams had to keep the same 11 guys out there whether they were on offense, defense, or special teams. That is now called "iron man" football because any team attempting to do that today, when the rules allow unlimited substitution, must have players with a great deal of endurance. Or, if you're like my home town's high school football team, you HAVE to play that way because the entire male student body is BARELY big enough to put 11 players on the field, so they ALL have to play both sides of the ball. They started that team about 20 years ago (shortly after I graduated). To my knowledge, they still have not won a game. It took them ten years to score their first points. The Canadian League and Arena football are different. Don't know about the European league of American Football. Playground rules: 4. 2 on each team. That's the bare minimum. There is usually no set number of players on a team. But, only 11 from each team on the field at the same time.

How many people play for a football team in the U.K?

Well if its a normal match you obviously know that they have 11 starting players with 5 substitutes for league and cup matches, for European cup matches you can have 7 substitutes... Coming to the number of people for a single team varies...The entire team squad consists of around 20-30 players with young and experienced players I still could not get your question right... Hope this answers!
