How can an NFL team play 16 games in season if there is only 15 other teams in their conference?

In any given season an nfl team plays every team in its division twice. Then the schedule of who else they play, within their conference, is on a cycle. Every year it alternates to a different division. Then the team also play one of the four divisions from the other conference. Now they have 14 games. The remaining two games are played against one team from the remaining two divisions in their conference based on schedule. And that's 16.

How is an NHL Team schedule determined How many times do they play each other team in their division conference etc.?

Here's the breakdown: 6 games vs. teams in their division (6x4=24) 4 games vs. teams from other two divisions in the conference (4x10=40) 1-2 games vs. each team from the other conference (18 games against 15 teams) 24+40+18=82 Each team plays 41 home games and 41 away games each season. The best 8 teams in each conference make the playoffs. 1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, etc. The winner of each conference plays each other in the Stanley Cup Final. The winner of that is the winner if the NHL that year.

Does each NFL team play every other team?

Not in the same season because there aren't enough games. Under the current NFL scheduling system, every team is guaranteed to play every other team at least once every four years. In a 16-game season, a schedule breaks down as follows: * 2 games against each divisional opponent. Total of 6 games. * 4 games against every team in another division within the conference, on a three-year rotation. Total of 4 games. * 4 games against every team in another division in the opposing conference, on a four-year rotation. Total of 4 games. * 1 game against the teams in the non-rotation divisions within the same conference who finished in the same position the previous season. (In other words, if Team A finished in first place in its division last year, they would play whatever division was in rotation that year, plus the teams who placed first in the two other non-rotation divisions in the previous year.) Total of 2 games.

What was the NFL like before the merge?

In the four years before the 1970 merger the NFL was composed of two conferences, Eastern and Western. The Eastern Conference was composed of the Capital and Century Divisions and the Western was composed of the Central and Coastal Divisions. The winners of the two Eastern divisions and Western divisions played against each other in the Conference Championship with the two winners playing the NFL Championship. Prior to 1966, there were simply the Esstern and Western Conferences, with the winners playing for the NFL Championship. Of note, the site for the Championship game rotated between Eastern and Western Conferences each year, so the team that had actually won more games could be playing on the road. Finally, the two second place teams in each conference played each other in the NFL Playoff Bowl in Miami.

How does NFL schedule games?

Quoted from cbs sportsline press release May 2001. ....Another plus for most of the owners is the new scheduling format, under which every team will meet every other at least once in four years. There will be six home-and-home divisional games; four against teams in another division within a conference; and four more against a division in the other conference on a rotating basis. The final two games will be against conference teams based on the previous year's standings -- first against first, second against second, and so on.

How many games does each team play in the American hockey league during regular seasonm?

It depends on the division and conference. Teams in the same division play each other more often, followed by teams in the same conference, and then they may play teams in the other conference only once or twice per year. I think they play 6 games against each team in their division and I don't think there is a set number for any other teams, but the NHL is looking to make it more consistant.

How many divisions are there in the NFL?

In 1960, the NFL had two conferences, the East and the West, and there were no divisions within either conference. The East conference had 6 teams and the West Conference had 7. In 1967, the NFL broke the two conferences into four divisions, the Capitol, Century, Coastal, and Central. Four teams were in each division. When the AFL-NFL merger occurred in 1970, each conference, American and National, had three divisions. Those were the East, Central, and West. Five teams were in each conference's East division and four were in both the Central and West. In 2002, with the addition of the Houston Texans as the 32nd NFL team, each conference was divided into four divisions from three. The new divisions were the East, North, West, and South. Four teams were in each division.
