Each team is allowed to field a maxuim of 105 players. There are 120 D1A teams( bowl eligible teams) so 120 x 105 = 12,600 players. Their are an additional 135 D1AA (playoff eligibility) that can field the same Maxuim of 105 players. So 135 x 105= 17,175 . So the max amount of players is 29,775 in the combined major and minor D1.
Of the bowl eligible teams 85 players can be on whole scholarships. While the championship eligible teams are allowed 63 scholarships that can be divided and shared among players up to a max of 85 players.
