On July 12, 1949, Brooklyn Dodgers teammates Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella and Don Newcombe represented the National League. Larry Doby of the Cleveland Indians became the first black American League All-Star in the same game.
When Jackie Robinson entered the National League in 1947, the primary owners of the Dodgers were Walter O'Malley, Branch Rickey, and John Smith. O'Malley assumed majority control of the Dodgers in 1950 upon Smith's death.
