You do have to be a member of the Corps of Cadets to be a member of the Fighting Texas Aggie Band.

The Aggie Bonfire is a tradition at Texas A&M University as part of a rivalry with the competing University of Texas at Austin. For years it was a tradition as an annual autumn event until 1999 when the Aggie Bonfire Tragedy took place. The tragedy was when there was a collapse during the construction of the bonfire in which 12 people died and 27 others were injured.
