During the years of 1959-1965, the NHL was comprised of the Original Six (Boston Bruins, Chicago Black Hawks, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, and Toronto Maple Leafs). The Original Six period lasted from 1942 until 1967, when an additional six teams were added. Those teams were the Pittsburgh Penguins, LA Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, St. Louis Blues, Minnesota North Stars, and the California Seals.
