It really depends as there are many young fencers in the Olympics this year (some who are only 18). Even these young fencers have been Fencing for at least 10 years and they are on the top of their game. This is one sport where it is not easy to make the Olympic team. Figure anywhere from 10-20 years of experience. A few years back I pre-qualified for the 2000 US Olympic trials in Ausitn and I am a former runner up National champ. The guys you see at the Olympics are on a completely different level.
