Well, It's bigger than an elementary school hoop, but it depends how high you are used to. I'm used to high hoops, so its not too big to me, but you might think it's big because everyone is used to different sizes.

8 ft high at primary school but 10ft high secondary and above, and the ring is 15" diameter
the offical height is 10 feet but outside school and stuff raise them to 11 and 12 feet so no one will dunk and bend the rim
Throughout middle school, high school, college and professional basketball, the backboards are the same size. They are also the same distance off of the floor at 10 feet.
