The same way you measure it on the flat - with a distance-measuring wheel that clicks for every X meters.

As for where to measure (as in the inside track is shorter than the outside), I'm not sure

(Assuming same and constant velocity)

Velocity = distance / time, so: time = distance / velocity

convert 300 yards to metres : ((300 * 36 * 25.4) / 1000) = 274.32 metres

Install arbitrary speed, say 10 metres / second

so: time for 300 yds ( 274.32 metres) = 274.32 / 10 = 27.432 seconds

and at same velocity:

time for 300 metres = 300 / 10 = 30.0 seconds

30.0 / 27.432 = 1.0936

so: multiply number of yards time * 1.0936 = same number of metres time

its 3/4 of the track, a lot of tracks have numbers at the end of the first bend starting from the finish line. jus go to the finish line and look left, if you walk straight to the other side of the track youll be at the 300start

That's about 1 1/4 lap short of two miles. It should be run in about 12min. You have to have a lot of stamina.
