Pointers: Keep your head down, kick hard, move arms fast, limit breaths, good start and flipturns. If you are doing a 200, with awful turns, you will be bad.
Start off with a good kick and strong armpull. Depending on your stamina and fitness gradually speed up every 50m. On the last 100m go all out kicking hard and increasing arm pull. For the last 5m, hold your breath and dig down. Good Luck!

You swim much faster. The 1650 is more than 3 times the length of the 500. You must pace yourself more during the mile swim.

It's all about practice and what stroke you are doing. Freestyle, if you practice enough, you should be good. Butterfly or breaststroke, you might not quite make the time.
