Well It's better to have grips by the time your level 5 but if your hands slip on the bar
easily than you should get grips.
Pretty much any type of grips are good, but starting out with new grips i would reccomend Just right by gibson

sorry for my bad inglish,first to all the Honda magna use a 7/8 handlebars and the OEM grips are 5"5/16 long iam using an aftermarcket grips on my 1985 magna so if you find a 7/8 hole grips that grips are your new ones ...lunaluna305 from Costa Rica
