Flex on a board really dependds on the amount of concave in it and also what the core material in the board is, eg harder woods such asmaplewill provide less flex but bamboo or baltic birch willprovide a little more depending on howmany sheets of the material you want to use.

Why do you put thin set under backer board?

The thin set under the board is to fill in any low spots in the floor. It is not to adhere the board to the floor. It is preventative against deflection. If there is a low spot and you do not fill it in, the board will flex and the grout/ tile will crack. Do not use construction adhesive it will do more harm then good.

What does flex mean on a longboard?

The flex of the board is how much the board bends when you stand on it. This is usually a desired effect, because it allows the rider to be more secure. Sometimes, however, if the rider is too heavy, a flexible board is not a good idea.
