Through allot of practice.

You should focus on getting down the rhythm you need to consistently throw strikes before you dive into the more complicated areas of pitching, like grip mechanics. Your "fastball" should have a low arc (as low as your league allows), while your "change up" will be a floater that arcs as high as the rules permit. Both of these pitches should land on the front or back of the plate/extension. Throw a shallow pitch that lands on the front of the plate when you have a batter that pulls his hits allot. Fouls are strikes, use them to your advantage. Throw it deep and have the ball land on the back of the plate when you have someone that pushes their hits allot. Same principle, use the fouls to your advantage. NEVER hang a pitch outside that lands centered with the plate. This is the one that every hard hitter salivates for and it will result in a deep bomb that the hitter can control quite well.

These same principles are used when throwing a pitch that "hugs" the inside or outside edges of the plate. Practice until you have a good amount of control over where your pitch will land when you throw it "normally". By this, I mean a standard pitch that has your grip begin with all four fingers under the ball.

Next you can begin using wind and finger placement to control the spin on the ball. A good pitcher can get some movement even when pitching underhand, but more importantly....they can alter the way a ball responds when it gets struck. Forcing pop-ups and grounders can put you team in a dominant position if you are going against another team that lacks a sound understanding of these principles.

The best way to teach your daughter of eight would be the proper motion of the pitch. The proper movement of the upper and lower extremities and how to coordinate it in one motion. It doesn't matter if it's strong or not as long as it reaches catchers mitt.
