If you've watched Step Up 3D, whenever they do the windmill, they don't seem to ever stab their elbows into their abs. Instead, they put one hand on the ground, and start swinging their legs around the way the windmilll always looks. To keep both legs in the air, kick one leg high up as you swing the other leg around, then quickly alternate: kick that other leg up as you swing the first leg around. As you're swinging your legs around, keep alternating the hand that you're standing on.
