Better for WHAT? In some cases pine is a good wood. It works easily and isn't very expensive. In some cases it's a terrible wood. It's hard to get a super shiny finish, it's not very hard and it's not very strong. Everything depends on application.

In its refined form aluminum can be polished to a very high finish, but it does form a protective layer of oxidation that will give the alumimium a duller finish

First, always use a very hard wood like maple for the table. Never use treated wood for food prep or a picnic table!! The best finish for chopping blocks and tables of that kind is a good quality Mineral Oil that can be purchased through a woodworking store online like Rockler or Woodcraft.
