How do you adjust the governor on a golf cart?

After the carb has been adjusted to proper specs and is running ok you can adjust the governor by bending the wires to either up the rpm or to lower it.

Also a better way without ruining the wires is to adjust the small screw that holds the governor piece in place. You can loosen that screw and push or pull on the governor to adjust the rpm. Usually pushing the governor will increase the rpm. You can always readjust, so you don't have to ruin the metal pieces connecting the carb and the governor

get a tech. you need one that will read a 1 cylinder engine. hook it up by its directions. check oil and gas before starting engine. make sure what ever the engine is attached too, will not move when the engine runs. use safety practices, i.e.. don't touch "hot, moving, or anything that might cause injury. start engine. when warmed up. adjust idel set screw to raise or lower speed. set to spec listed in manual for your model

On most motors you loosen the screw on the Governor arm while throttle is wide open then tighten it before you release the tension. This is only a preset it may need further adjustment with age. PS some tvm engines have a Governor override adjustment lever with two screws. the top one is for high rpm adjustmen tand the lower is for low rpm. how to videos are out there as well.... good luck

Governors work off a fan by the flywheel. Other than bending the linkage there is not much to adjust. Just blow any debris out and keep it clean. Not sure about your particular setup but they all operate on the same principle. vbd

The governor that works off the flywheel is called an air-vane governor and is used mainly on the smaller engines (3.5 - 9 HP). The larger engines, like the intek, use a mechanical governor that is inside the engine. It is a gear mechanism with weights that swing out as the engine speed increases. this in turn pushes against a shaft that applies a negative force on the throttle to keep the engine from reving to high..
