The rest of Europe looked on in horror as the October Revolution swept away the established order in Russia

. It saw the aristocracy flee abroad, it saw private enterprise taken over by the state in the name of the workers, and it saw the workers apparently take over the running of the state. If it happened in backwards, mostly illiterate Russia, then workers in Germany, Belgium and Great Britain may also begin to organise their own revolutions.

Why was the Ottoman Empire seen as threat to Europe?

Did the anti-Bolsheviks pose any significant threat to the Bolshevik government in the Russian civil war?

Yes, especially as they were supported by troops from many foreign countries, including Britain, France, Japan, the US and by assorted German mercenaries as well as by Russian supporters of the old regime. The Russian Civil War of 1918-1921 was vicious and was fought with the utmost savagery on both sides. The Soviet side had the advantage of inner communication, but the Bolshevik victory owed much to abilities and pragmatism of Trotsky who decided (in the face of much opposition) to strengthen the Red Army by recruiting former Tsarist officers.

Why do the men in 1800's war photos have their hands inside their shirts over their hearts?

Because of Napoleon. An artist who was painting Napoleon's picture, had trouble painting a realistic hand, so he told Napoleon to strike the pose, which you mentioned. The "hand inside shirt, over heart" pose.. I suppose many soldiers, wanting to be similar to Napoleon, copied his "pose."

Why did the Greek philosophy pose a challenge to Christian scholars?

Answer:Greek philosophy doesn't pose a challenge to Christianity. The opposite is true."...the Greeks seek after wisdom..." (I Cor.1:22).There is no human wisdom or understanding in the preaching of "...Christ crucified..." (verse 23).So, the challenge to Greek philosophy posed by Christianity is in their getting past their perceived "foolishness" of it.
