1) Ballparks are much smaller now than they used to be. 100 years ago it was not uncommon for the centerfield fence to be 500 feet or more from home plate. It was as much as 400 feet down the lines.

2) Gloves are much more flexible than before. Baseballs are changed constantly where 100 years ago if a Baseball was fouled into the stands, the fans were expected to throw it back onto the field so it could be used again. Players used bats that weighed as much as 48 ounces. Today, players use bats that weigh around 34-36 ounces.

3) Pitchers pitch fewer innings than they used to. 100 years ago it was not uncommon to see pitchers throw close to 400 innings in a season.

4) Most games are at night. 100 years ago all games were played during the day ... there were no lights for night games.
