I am not the best 400m runner. I ran 55 in high school, and the best could typically run it in 50.
My track coach, who won 6 straight state titles, told me to run the first 200m at a near sprint. He said to run a 50, you want to run a 24 and a 26.
He had us run a lot of 300s, and some 150s too.
