to awnser your question, tae kwon do was introduced to the US in the first year (1955). the US was one of the original countries of tae kwon do. going into more depth there were nine of them. korea, USA, west germany, turkey, egypt, italy, vietnam, malysia, and singapore. so
Tae Kwon Do's main philosiphy is to become one with the universe. To be in control and in harmony with evrything in and around you. Some rules of the principles are to be gentle to the weak and tough to the strong. To always assist someone reguadless of rank, race, age, or anthing. This is what Taekwondo is all about.

Tae Kwon Do was brought to Lesotho in the early 70s, by Mogg Yoon and Yeon Hwan Park. The pair, both highly decorated TKD competitors, were sent by the Korean government as technical assistance to the African Kingdom. Mr. Yoon went on to become the personal bodyguard to president Jomo Kenyatta of Kenya, and head the Kenyan Taekwondo Association. Mr. Park moved to the USA in 1980, and at one point was coach of the US Olympic Tae Kwon Do team.

TaeGuk Kwon is one of the disciplines practiced with the intention of improving health and increasing longevity. Tae-Bo combines Tae Kwon Do, boxing and dance disciplines which one of the best things that you can do at home. It is great exercise and leaves you feeling wonderful even if you can't kick as high as others do.
One point is that it is a great source of exercise. It helps you become more patient than you were before you started. You learn to listen and not talk when others are speaking to the class. You learn to show respect to others.
