As a (hopefully) logical thought, given that water freezes, ropes do not unless saturated with water, a wax coating that keeps water out of the rope very probably would keep the rope pliable.

if your talking about salt, it only adds friction and therefore grip for vehicles, it doesnt stop them freezing

you can turn the graphics all down to the lowest point which stops it from freezing.
