Rocky Marciano WAS NOT the first boxer ever to retire as the "Undefeated World Hvywt. Champion"/ However, he was indeed CREDITED with being the first ever boxer to retire, having held the World title, NEVER HAVING SUFFERED A PROFESSIONAL LOSS.

Gene Tunney is ONE EXAMPLE of someone who retired as the "Undefeated World Hvywt. Champion" (Never lost title) - however- Gene had a single Career defeat on his ledger. Others have come close to Rocky's accomplishments. Larry Holmes came right up next to his mark.. ALSO: It should be noted that boxing "World Championships" are -much divided- THESE DAYS. The "FIRST ESCHELON" WORLD BELTS AS of Jan 1, 2010 should be considered to be the WBC, the WBA, the WBO and the IBF. NO OTHER ORGANIZATIONS. NOBODY ELSE. -their are -many- other Organizations. (The "IBO" is a -very strong- 2ND "e" group. -nothing follows- John Wilkinson/ NEW BRITAIN, CT. Running for Lt. Governor of STATE as I wrote this.
