The team acquired the nickname 'Black Sox'. 1931: Team founder Charles Comiskey passed away. 1959: Win the American League pennant for the first time in 40 years. They lose to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. 1979: Have a promotion called 'Disco Demolition Night'. Fans can bring their unwanted disco records to the gate and exchange them for a reduced ticket price. The records were collected and blown up in between games of a double header. The explosion created a hole in the outfield and started a rush of thousands of fans onto the field. 39 arrests were made for disorderly conduct.
