Yes, a number of such accidents occured, and indirectly spurred on the advent of the metallic-usually aluminum bats- standard in the Little Leagues-but it turns out one hazard door closing opens another- these bats produce a higher muzzle velocity to the baseball- and accidents of their own, some fatal. ( owing to the higher impact velocity- a pitcher was hit by his own (Line drive) and was comatose for months a few years ago in Wayne, N.J.)
