Bret Hart has rarely lost via submission; there are at least three known instances where he has, but they were all controversial - the towel was thrown in, the Montreal Screwjob, Luger injured Hart's leg earlier that week with a Baseball bat.
1) November 23, 1994 - Survivor Series: Bob Backlund (Owen Hart in corner) defeated Bret "Hitman" Hart (British Bulldog in corner) by Helen Hart throwing in the towel as the Cross-face Chicken-wing was applied for the WWF Heavyweight title.
2) November 9, 1997 - Survivor Series: Shawn Michaels defeated Bret
"Hitman" Hart by submission via Sharpshooter for the WWF title... aka "Montreal Screwjob"
3) October 24, 1999 - Halloween Havoc: Lex Luger defeated Bret "Hitman" Hart via single leg crab.
