For two seasons the Steelers merged with other teams. In 1943 the Steelers merged with the Philadelphia Eagles to form Phil-Pitt aka "Steagles". In 1944 the Steelers merged with the Chicago Cardinals to form Card-Pitt. The teams were forced to merge, because players were being lost to military service due to World War II.
