1971 Not quite correct. The NHL Canucks started play in the '70-'71 season. But the Western Hockey League Vancouver Canucks go back to the mid 1940's. Many of the great NHLers made it to the big time after stints with Vancouver e.g. goaltenders, Johnny Bower, Gump Worsley, Gilles Villemure and Hank Bassen and NHL all-star right winger Andy Bathgate. The WHL Canucks were perennial rivals of the Seattle Totems. Wouldn't it be great if Seattle got a NHL franchise so that the rivalry between the 2 cities could begin again? Surreyfan
