A down and in pattern consists of an eligible receiver running straight ahead for a predetermined number of yards (determined by the down and distance), then cutting sharply at a 90 degree angle towards the center of the field. The receiver does not stop running until he catches the ball or runs out of room (reaches the opposite sideline).
