It depends on what type of person you are. If you only focus on sports and just barely pass your classes, then no, it wont help your test scores. But if you give just as much if not more effort in school as you do sports then yes it might help. Also being in sports gives less "free time", and most of that "free time" will be spent on school work.

Get atleast a 4.0, take honors and AP classes, and do sports. Try to get into varsity teams, and do a lot of community service hours. SAT scores are about 2400. Also try to get into a lot of clubs and extra curr. activities. Do leadership, and help out in the school. Try being class president. Work your butt off.
There is no necessity at all for canceling high school sports. High school athletes and none sports students all benefit from Varsity sports as well a sports played in gymnasiums. Gymnasium sports help build an athlete's body and also, sports at the high school level develops a camaraderie among the student athletes.
