Yes, you do. It is called sparring, like many other forms of Martial Arts. In the form that I take, there is ring sparring, which is scored with a 3-point system - first to three points wins. The system can vary slightly within this martial art, of course, since everyone can do it a different way if that's how they learn it.
Taekwando is a form of sport or martial art comparable to karate or other forms of martial combative skills.
