It's a huge country filled with hundreds of cultures and pretty much every terrain on earth besides tropical. Just like in the US where hockey is bigger in the northeast than in the southwest for obvious reasons. soccer is huge all over the world so that's normal. I don't know if hockey is as big in Russia as we think. They are a very athletic minded people and Russians have their hands in most sports.

∙ 15y agoRussians are second most dominate at hockey in the world behind Canada obviously and they have produced incredible players like *Alex Ovechkin *Tretiak *The Bure's TO name a few.

Russians play several sports as well, most notably hockey and soccer. Russians have been fairly successful in hockey in particular, and during the height of the Cold War had several almost "unbeatable" teams, until the 1980 Winter Olympics when Herb Brooks and his "Miracle on Ice" defeated the Soviet team to go on and win gold in one of the most memorable American sports matches.
