Yes. Jay Berwanger, who won the first Heisman Trophy in 1935, graduated from the University of Chicago. But he never played professional football, even though he was the first-ever college player to be drafted by a National Football League team. Berwanger was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles, who then traded his rights to the Chicago Bears. Berwanger decided not to play in the NFL because he believed the pay was too low.
