∙ 11y agoThe University of Georgia product was selected as a quarterback by the Cowboys in the second round of the 2001 National Football League college draft. He started eight games as a rookie, but injuries sidelined him during the second half of the season. He started seven games in 2002, but inconsistent play resulted in his being supplanted by Chad Hutchinson.
Carter started every game of the 2003 season, which was Bill Parcells' first year as the Cowboys' head coach. He led Dallas to a postseason berth, but the Cowboys were eliminated in the divisional round by the Carolina Panthers.
During Dallas' 2004 training camp, Carter was abruptly released by the Cowboys for several reasons, including a failed drug test. He spent the 2004 season as a member of the New York Jets.
