There are two basic kick off reception formations as follows:
1)
40m Left Centre Lock or Hooker Right Centre
30m
20m Left 2nd Row Hooker or Lock Right 2nd Row
10m
0m Left Wing Right Wing
-5m Halfback Fullback Five-eight
-9m Left Prop Right Prop
2) Simply involves bringing both the hooker AND lock up to the 40m line. Usually this is to defend a short kickoff (similar to the onside kick in the NFL). The fullback may then chose not to stand as deep to helf defend the centre of the field behid the hooker and lock.
