On the offensive side of the ball, there is the play caller, or the quarterback. Usually, there are fullbacks, running backs and halfbacks. They run the ball. Running backs and halfbacks are basically the same, but the fullback is designed for power running. If you ever need a yard or two, call on the fullback to get those yards up the middle of the defense. You have an offensive line doing all the hard work, yet they never get much credit. They block the incoming defenders and hold them off to either give the running backs a hole to go through, or time for the quarterback to throw a pass. The quarterback has 1-5 receivers on the field at a time and these are the people he throws it to.

On the defense, you have the down lineman. These go up against the offensive linemen and try to tackle the player with the ball. You then have the linebackers lined up directly behind the linemen. They can defend the pass and the run and are very strong and aggressive. Then you have your defensive backs. These are corners and safeties. The corners defend the receivers and try to stop them from catching a pass from the quarterback. Then the safeties are basically the safety valves. If a big pass or run is made the the safeties are there to stop them from gaining anymore yards. That is the roster for College Football
