Can you put longboard wheels or trucks on a trickboard to make the ride smoother or will that make doing tricks harder?

It makes it slightly harder to do tricks but it will help keep the board stable. I recommend getting some rises to help increase your pop of the board

Definitely get into longboarding. You'll find it very simple and relaxing compared to the constant pressure of having to be "the best" at tricks if you get into skateboarding.
