Yes. I did and filed down the wheels so much that I had to get replacement wheels. It took me about 300 uses for me to grind down my wheels, so your probably okay unless you use them as much as I do.
To stop effectively on rollerblades, beginners can use the heel brake by lifting their toes and pressing the brake down. This action will slow down and eventually stop the rollerblades. Practice this technique in a safe and open area to improve your stopping skills.
Roller skate have 2 wheels side by side in front and back. Roller blades have all wheels in 1 row.

Modern rollerblades are made from a number of different materials depending on the area of the skate you're talking about. The most common question isn't usually about the boot or the wheels of the rollerblades, but rather the frame. Most frames on modern skates are made from aluminum or some combination of carbon and aluminum. Older models and even some less expensive models will have a plastic frame, but more often than not you'll find a form of aluminum or composite material. The boot of the skate typically is constructed of a foam, mesh, and plastic. The wheels are made from urethane.
Many everyday items have wheels, including bicycles, cars, and motorcycles for transportation. Additionally, various types of furniture like office chairs and rolling carts use wheels for mobility. Recreational items such as skateboards and rollerblades also feature wheels, while industrial equipment like pallet jacks and forklifts rely on wheels for heavy lifting and movement.
There really aren't many disadvantages to rollerblades. Although the few that come to mind are 1, the routine maintenance that you need to do on them, just to make sure you're not wearing the wheels down too much on one side, or that the bearings are clean and not corroding. However, even this maintenance isn't that bad, it's just a matter of inspecting and then taking action if needed. The other is that rollerblading in the rain is not really feasible, or perhaps desirable is the better word. Water is like kryptonite when it comes to the bearings of the skates, so as opposed to running, you cannot, or should not rollerblade in the rain. Other than these, there aren't many drawbacks to rollerblades.

The workings of rollerblades are relatively simple. A skate boot sits atop a frame, made from either plastic, aluminum, or other composite material. The boot usually features a closure system of standard laces, a velcro strap across the ankle, and a ratcheting strap near the cuff, at the ankle. The frame houses a set of wheels, most commonly a set of 4 per skate. The wheels contain a bearing with and space for an axle. The wheels are placed within the frame and secured by the axle. When put together, the bearings and axles work in tandem with the boot and energy generated by the skaters legs and feet.
